Second-year running back Jordan James has a clear path to the high-value backup role in San Francisco as Kyle Shanahan often values functional efficiency over Isaac Guerendo’s freakish 125.7 (99th-percentile) Speed Score and 135.5 (97th-percentile) Burst Score. While Guerendo remains an athletic project, James grinds out tough yards and seems to be securing massive contingent value behind an aging, fragile Christian McCaffrey.
James locks down the 49ers handcuff role; he instantly offers league-winning upside with a premium in dynasty leagues.

Kyle Shanahan is finally acknowledging the truth: McCaffrey’s past usage is unsustainable. This admission is years in the making as San Francisco must dial back the “wear and tear” on the greatest fantasy asset of our generation.
The legendary 90-percent snap share is a 2026 pipe dream, opening the door for a backfield committee that would surely throttle McCaffrey’s weekly floor. By clicking that button in the early first round expecting the same historic workload, fantasy gamers are ignoring some rare coach straight talk and walking straight into a high-priced efficiency trap.
The 49ers can’t seem to catch a break. Their wide receiver room is flummoxed with injury with Jauan Jennings and Brandon Aiyuk currently sidelined. Now their running back room is taking a hit with the depth behind star running back Christian McCaffrey.
Ironically, McCaffrey is the healthiest of the bunch as rookie Jordan James will now miss a couple of weeks due to a broken finger that he needs surgery on. On top of that, Isaac Guerendo is on the mend with a shoulder injury.
While it may seem like the 49ers have no food, jobs, and their pets heads are falling off, they do have Christian McCaffrey to look forward to. McCaffrey is going 7th overall on Underdog as the RB4. Confidently click McCaffrey in round 1 as he has league winning upside.
