Hunter Henry Bio

Hunter Henry is a tight end for the New England Patriots. Henry played wide receiver, defensive end, and offensive tackle in high school. He didn't move to tight end until he arrived at Arkansas. Henry played three seasons for the Razorbacks and posted college stats of 116 passes for 1,661 yards and nine touchdowns. He won the John Mackey Award in 2015, the prize given to the best tight end in college football.

Hunter Henry did not jump off the page as an athletic prospect in the predraft process before the 2016 NFL Draft. He showed something as a size-speed specimen with a 40 time of 4.73 contributing to a 68th percentile Speed Score, but that was about it. His wingspan was a disappointing 9.96. Still, the San Diego Chargers took him in the second round, making him the first tight end selected in that draft.

Henry led all tight ends with eight touchdowns as a rookie while also finishing No.6 in Yards per Target and Yards per Reception. He was No.3 in Yards per Route Run in his second season. Henry missed the entire 2018 season with an ACL injury. He went over 50 receptions and 600 yards in each of the next two seasons, setting career highs with 652 yards in 2019 and 60 receptions in 2020. Henry signed a free-agent contract with the Patriots in 2021 worth a potential $37.5m. He played only 66.5 percent of the snaps in his first season and was No.15 with 382 routes run in 2021. Henry was No.2 among all tight ends with a career-high nine scores. Henry generated the No.2 QB Rating When Targeted at 130.7. He was No.10 in Air Yards with 717 and saw seven deep balls, while he was No.29 in YAC with 156. He had just two drops.
