Joe Flacco
Joe Flacco Named Browns Starting QB

The Cleveland Browns have named veteran quarterback Joe Flacco the starter for week one.

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco has been named the starter in week one for the Cleveland Browns. He comes out on top in a crowded room, which also had Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders competing for the starting job. Long gone are the days of him being a Super Bowl Champion and MVP, but Flacco can still air the ball out and elevate the play of his pass catchers. In 2023, in the six games he played for the Browns, he averaged 321 passing yards and built great chemistry with David Njoku, who was a fantasy league winner. Now heading into 2025 with Njoku, Jeudy, Tillman and Johnson, the Brown’s receiving game has potential.

This decision to move forward with Flacco as the starter has fantasy managers with different opinions on the matter. Many in favor of Flacco just want fantasy-relevant receivers. In contrast, others have a more real-life perspective and would like the two rookies who were just drafted to get the starts, adjust to the NFL, and build chemistry with the pass catchers, letting the Browns get a sample size to decide if they have to draft a new quarterback in 2026. The 40-year-old Flacco made some magic in Cleveland before, and let’s hope he has a little left in the tank.
