Christian McCaffrey Lighting Up Camp

Christian McCaffrey is lighting up practices while injuries to the backups pile up.

Injuries are piling up for the San Fransico 49ers, and it is now affecting the running back room. Jordan James was already injured with a knee injury, and now we can add Isaac Guerendo to the list with a suspected shoulder issue. The off-season was full of questions surrounding McCaffrey as he dealt with Achilles tendonitis and a PCL injury that shut him down for the season. He was limited to individual drills last week as Coach Shanahan said, “the plan is to sit that portion coming out of days off…It’s part of the plan to get him to the season healthy.”

McCaffrey is one of the most controversial assets heading into this season, as his talent and production are undeniable. Still, given how last year played out, many fantasy managers are wary of paying a first-round price. The 29-year-old is a dual-threat cheat code when he is healthy, and the offense will be counting on him once again. Deebo Samuel was traded to the Commanders, Brandon Aiyuk could start the season on the PUP List, and Jauan Jennings is currently missing time with a calf issue. So far, leaving Brock Purdy with McCaffrey, Kittle and Pearsall as weapons to start the season.

Let’s hope that with the injuries to the backups, the coaching staff doesn’t stray from their plan not to overwork the star running back before the season begins. If reports are accurate and McCaffrey truly is lighting up camp and hits week one at full steam, we could have him back to 250 carries and over 80 catches, smashing his ADP.
