C.J. Stroud Getting Stronger, Faster Ahead of Crucial Year 3
2 months ago

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud prioritized strength and conditioning during 2025 offseason.

Texans QB C.J. Stroud is attacking the offseason with purpose, zeroing in on getting leaner, faster, and stronger as he gears up for a pivotal third year. That physical growth could translate into more mobility – a key development given Houston’s shaky offensive line. After allowing 54 sacks in 2024 (third-most in the NFL), the Texans dealt away star LT Laremy Tunsil and replaced him with Cam Robinson, who posted a 9.3% pressure rate (92nd among tackles).

Stroud will also be navigating a new offense under first-time coordinator Nick Caley, with no shortage of firepower around him. Houston added rookie wideouts Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel – taken in the second and third rounds – and replaced Stefon Diggs with veteran slot presence Christian Kirk. All of it compliments the unquestioned alpha, Nico Collins, who remains the engine of the passing attack.

Complicating matters, Houston draws one of the toughest pass defense schedules in the league – but Stroud will at least benefit from 12 dome games on the slate. On the other side of the ball, a Texans defense that ranked 4th in yards per play allowed last season could limit shootout potential, placing even greater emphasis on Stroud’s efficiency behind a shaky offensive line.
