Emmett Johnson Bio

Emmett Johnson

Emmett Johnson is a running back and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played his collegiate career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. A native of the Minneapolis, Minnesota area, Johnson attended Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, where he earned Minnesota Mr. Football honors after a standout senior season. He committed to Nebraska as a three-star recruit in the 2022 class, redshirted in his first year, and progressively increased his role over the following two seasons, rushing for 411 yards in 2023 and 598 yards in 2024 while also contributing as a pass catcher with 39 receptions for 286 yards that year. He entered the 2025 season as the Cornhuskers' featured back and delivered the most productive year of his career, rushing for 1,451 yards on 251 carries at 5.8 yards per carry with 12 touchdowns, while catching 46 passes for 370 yards and three more scores. Johnson declared for the 2026 NFL Draft following the season.

Measuring 5-11 and 200 pounds, Johnson brings an appealing combination of vision, patience, and pass-catching ability that make him stand out as a three-down option. His footwork and change of direction in tight spaces are among the best in the class, and he is capable of stringing together multiple moves to break tackles and maximize yardage in the second level. His receiving production over two seasons, averaging more than three catches per game, is a genuine asset and projects him as a legitimate weapon out of the backfield in the NFL. He does not profile as a power back and will need to improve his pass protection technique to earn full-time playing time early in his career. Johnson projects as a Day 2 selection with the versatility and receiving upside to develop into a starter in a zone or spread system.
