Penix Jr and Falcons Fail to Perform

Michael Penix Jr and the Atlanta Falcons struggled mightily on Sunday, losing to the Carolina Panthers by a score of 30-0.

Sunday’s matchup against the Panthers is a game both Michael Penix Jr and the Atlanta Falcons would like to put in the rear-view mirror quickly. Penix was ineffective from the start and looked hesitant in his play, finishing 18 of 36 and 172 yards before being pulled for Kirk Cousins. Head Coach Raheem Morris stated that Penix Jr is still the starting quarterback moving forward.

The Panthers’ defense stymied the Falcons all game, which was highlighted by an interception thrown by Penix and returned for a touchdown. Running back Bijan Robinson was the lone bright spot for the Falcons, gaining 72 rushing yards and adding 39 through the air. Last season, Michael Penix Jr was effective in throwing the deep ball in Weeks 16-18; he threw for 316 yards on 15+ air yard attempts. Talent surrounds the quarterback with the likes of Drake London, Kyle Pitts and Darnell Mooney. We will see if the Falcons can rebound from an embarrassing loss in Week 4 as they take on the Washington Commanders.
