Two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson, entering his age 37 season, has stated he wants to play football into his 40s.
Self-titled “Mr. Unlimited,” Russell Wilson, sure thinks he can play well into his 40s. In an interview with Sport’s Illustrated Connor Orr, Wilson does a introspective look at his career so far and comments on his future. Wilson turns 37 in November and stated he wants to play five-plus more years in the NFL.
This means he needs to play better than he has of late. Along with multiple injuries, Wilson’s play has steeply declined from his prime years in Seattle. His athleticism was his biggest attribute, along with a strong arm that led the Seattle Seahawks to two Super Bowl Championships. His last season in Seattle was the start of his decline in play as his athleticism had diminished to the point he was unable to consistently avoid rushers behind a bad offensive line. From there, Wilson has struggled to make the big plays he’s used to. He will have play much better in the pocket to last the five-plus additional years he wants to play.
Wilson was QB24 overall in 2024 due to injury but was QB17 in fantasy points per game. Wilson will flash a play here and there, but he will need to be much more consistent if he wants to hold off first-round pick Jaxson Dart. The Giants coaching staff has nothing but high praise for the rookie. Wilson will likely be on a short leash, he is at best a decent rental QB in all fantasy formats.
