Camar Wheaton Bio

Camar Wheaton is a running back and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played at Alabama and Southern Methodist University during his collegiate career. A native of Garland, Texas, Wheaton was one of the most highly recruited backs in the 2021 class, signing with Alabama as a five-star prospect. He redshirted his freshman year with the Crimson Tide before transferring to SMU, where he joined as a featured option in head coach Rhett Lashlee's offense. He appeared in 10 games as a sophomore in 2022, rushing for 322 yards and two touchdowns on 62 carries, then posted 410 yards and five touchdowns on 83 carries in 2023. A knee injury derailed his 2024 season entirely, costing him the year. He was placed on the unavailable list ahead of the 2025 season and ultimately departed the SMU program, leaving his college career with modest totals of 732 rushing yards and seven touchdowns across his two productive seasons with the Mustangs.

Measuring approximately 6-0 and 205 pounds with track-verified speed that includes a 10.6-second 100-meter time from his prep career, Wheaton brings elite athleticism and breakaway potential to the evaluation process. When healthy, he flashes the top-end speed, one-cut decisiveness, and open-field galloping ability that made him one of the nation's most coveted recruits out of high school. The concerns in his evaluation are substantial: a college career defined by injuries and modest production that never allowed him to fully develop or demonstrate his capabilities against consistent competition, limited experience as a receiver and pass protector, and questions about his availability and durability that will be central to any NFL team's assessment of his ceiling. Wheaton projects as a priority undrafted free agent or long-shot late-round selection who represents a high-risk, high-upside developmental opportunity for a team willing to invest in his rare athletic tools.
