Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be out until Week 1 after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
The Jets are heading into the 2025 season ready for Justin Fields to start the season. Backup Tyrod Taylor is a perfect archetype match to Fields should Fields suffer an injury. Both quarterbacks have excellent scrambling and rushing ability. Unfortunately, the Jets will need Fields to be healthy as Taylor has just had surgery on his knee.
Taylor will miss the rest of the preseason after undergoing arthroscopic surgery. The Jets are hoping to have him back by Week 1. While this isn’t reason to be too concerned, it does emphasize the need for Justin Fields to start the season in good health and to perform well.
Should the Jets 1-year experiment with Justin Fields not work out, they will surely be in the running for a starting quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft. While Fields signed a 2-year deal, his cap hit in 2025 is $8 million compared to $23 in 2026. In the meantime, consider Taylor a stash in superflex dynasty leagues at best while Fields has top-5 weekly upside, as volatile as it may be.

Tyrod Taylor will take over for the struggling Tommy DeVito and start at quarterback for the Giants in Week 17
Tommy DeVito was successful when he initally took over at quarterback for the injured Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor. That led to him being named the signal caller even when Taylor returned from injury. However, after multiple subpar offensive outings, the Giants will make a change. Taylor will make his first start since week 7 this season and will likely remain the quarterback for the team’s final two games.
This marks the end of an exciting story for a player whose fame quickly rose because of his big personality. DeVito performed admirably and proved he’s a quarterback in today’s NFL. That role should be as a backup though because DeVito doesn’t have the playmaking ability or decision-making to be a consistent starter.
For fantasy managers in championships this weekend though Taylor remains an intriguing option. He will be off the radar in 1QB formats, but considering the injuries to the quarterback position this year, Taylor will be a back-end QB2 in my rankings. He remains active with his legs and has been efficient in his limited opportunities over the last several years.
Daniel Jones suffered a torn ACL in the Giants week 9 loss to the Raiders.
Daniel Jones tore his ACL on a non-contact injury and will miss the remainder of the 2023 season. It was a disastrous year for Jones and the Giants who weren’t able to continue their success from last season. He finished as the QB24 or worse in every game he played but one this season, and was No.28 in fantasy points per game as well.
With Jones out for the season and Tyrod Taylor placed on Injured Reserve, it will be Tommy DeVito taking over at quarterback for the foreseeable future. While he settled in later in the game and threw his first touchdown pass, the offense was a mess. No Giants pass catchers will have fantasy value as a result. Saquon Barkley can be locked in lineups due to volume, but the upside will be limited in an offense that won’t generate very many scoring opportunities.
More concerning for Jones is his future as the Giants’ starting quarterback is in serious doubt. There isn’t a team in the NFL playing worse football than the New York Giants at the moment. They will be in position to take one of the best quarterbacks in next years’ draft class, which may be tough for them to pass up. However, Jones does carry a near $70 million cap hit next season. Unless a trade happens he will certainly be in New York again in 2024 so the Giants’ draft position will have a huge impact on his future fantasy value.
