Taurean York Bio

Taurean York

Taurean York is a linebacker and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played all three seasons of his collegiate career at Texas A&M. A native of Temple, Texas, York was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class who initially committed to Baylor before flipping to the Aggies. Despite his modest recruiting profile, he became an immediate starter as a true freshman in 2023, finishing his debut season with 74 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks to earn ESPN Freshman All-America and SEC All-Freshman Team honors. As a sophomore in 2024 he was named team captain and led the Aggies with 82 tackles, adding 9.5 tackles for loss and earning Second-Team All-SEC recognition. In his junior season in 2025, York again led Texas A&M in tackles, posting 73 stops with 7.5 tackles for loss and a sack across 13 games before declaring for the draft. He finished his career with 209 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks across 39 games.

Measured at 5-foot-10 and 227 pounds, York is undersized by traditional NFL linebacker standards but compensates with exceptional instincts, football intelligence, quick feet and sideline-to-sideline range. He was a two-time team captain at Texas A&M, earning respect as a defensive signal-caller who processes plays quickly and communicates adjustments pre-snap. His coverage grade improved dramatically over three seasons, going from below average as a freshman to ranking among the better marks at the position as a junior. The most common projection places him as a Day Three selection with a floor as a reliable nickel linebacker and special teams contributor, and potential upside as a starting weak-side linebacker in schemes that value speed and range over size.
