Max Tomczak Bio

Max Tomczak

Max Tomczak is a wide receiver and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played his entire collegiate career with the Youngstown State Penguins. A native of Frankfort, Illinois, Tomczak arrived at Youngstown State as a walk-on in 2021, without a scholarship offer from any Division I program. He is the nephew of former Ohio State quarterback and 14-year NFL veteran Mike Tomczak, who served on the Youngstown State staff and provided early support and mentorship during his transition to college football. He earned a scholarship before his second season and steadily grew into the program's most important offensive weapon. He recorded 26 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns in 2022, followed by 56 receptions for 669 yards and a touchdown in 2023, before breaking out as a first team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection in 2024 with 73 receptions for 904 yards and four scores. He capped his career with his best season in 2025, leading the Penguins with 70 receptions for 1,021 yards and eight touchdowns, earning additional All-MVFC recognition and finishing second in school history in career receiving yardage. He was named to the Senior Bowl Top 300 list and accumulated over 2,700 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns across his career at the FCS level.

Standing 6-foot and 195 pounds, Tomczak is known for exceptionally crisp route running that generates consistent separation at all three levels, reliable hands and a knack for moving the chains on third downs that he developed through years of grinding from walk-on status to FCS stardom, and the polished football intelligence that NFL scouts identify in players with football in their bloodlines. His size limits his jump-ball ability and he will not overwhelm defenders with elite speed at the next level, but his route precision, short-area quickness, and competitive toughness project him as a developmental slot receiver and special teams contributor at the professional level, where his combination of production, character, and work ethic position him as a priority free agent or late-round candidate capable of competing for a roster spot in a West Coast or timing-based scheme.
