Lee Hunter is a defensive tackle and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who finished his collegiate career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders after previous stops at Auburn and UCF. A native of Eight Mile, Alabama, named for its distance from Mobile, Hunter attended Blount High School and was rated a four-star recruit in the 2021 class before signing with Auburn under head coach Gus Malzahn, who was fired after the 2020 season. Hunter redshirted during his sole season in the Auburn program under replacement head coach Bryan Harsin before entering the transfer portal and following Malzahn to UCF, where he played a rotational role in 2022 before exploding in 2023 with 69 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and three sacks in 13 starts, leading all college defensive tackles nationally in total tackles and earning Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors. He earned Second Team All-Big 12 recognition in 2024 with 45 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss, then transferred to Texas Tech for a final season in 2025, where he helped anchor the nation's top-ranked rushing defense, allowing just 68.5 yards per game, while recording 41 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks, earning All-America honors and a Senior Bowl invitation. He finished his career with 172 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 32 tackles for loss across four productive seasons.
Standing 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds, Hunter is known as one of the premier run-stuffing interior defenders in the 2026 class, possessing the size, violent hands, and natural strength to absorb and shed single blocks, hold his ground against double teams, and control A-gaps in both two-gap and penetrating defensive schemes. His run-defense stop rate ranked third nationally among defensive tackles in 2025, and his average depth of tackle against the run was among the best of any interior defender in the class. NFL evaluators project him primarily as a one-technique or nose tackle in a four-man or 3-4 front at the next level, where his rare combination of size, power, and ability to diagnose and disrupt run concepts on early downs give him legitimate Day 2 value as an anchor who can free up linebackers and contribute immediately to any defense prioritizing physical dominance in the trenches.
