Jermod McCoy Bio

Jermod McCoy

Jermod McCoy is a cornerback and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played two seasons of college football between Oregon State and Tennessee. A native of Tyler, Texas, McCoy was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class who committed to Oregon State and made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2023, appearing in all 12 games with five starts and recording 31 tackles and two interceptions to lead the Beavers in passes defended. He transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2024 season and immediately became one of the best corners in the country, starting all 13 games and leading the Volunteers with 13 passes defended and four interceptions, allowing just one touchdown in 640 defensive snaps while earning Second-Team All-America honors and Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist recognition. His 89.6 PFF coverage grade ranked among the nation's top cornerbacks. McCoy suffered a torn ACL in January 2025 during the offseason and missed the entire 2025 season while rehabbing, then declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. He finished his career with 75 tackles, six interceptions and 16 passes defensed across two seasons of play.

Standing at 6-foot and 188 pounds with a 77-inch wingspan and the kind of fluid hips and quick feet that translate directly to press coverage at the NFL level, McCoy is widely considered among the two or three best cornerbacks in the 2026 class on pure tape. His receiver background informs his ball tracking ability, giving him soft, reliable hands to finish interceptions and an intuitive feel for attacking the catch point before the ball arrives. He excels in both man and zone coverage, showing the ability to carry vertical routes, sit in zone concepts and read quarterback eyes to poach routes in passing lanes. His 2024 season at Tennessee was as complete a cornerback performance as any prospect in this cycle, and most evaluations project him as a first-round pick with legitimate CB1 starting upside. The significant wild card is his medical clearance following the torn ACL, and most of his draft range will be determined by how NFL team doctors evaluate his knee recovery ahead of his pro day in Knoxville. If he clears, he is a consensus top-20 overall talent.
