DT Sheffield is a wide receiver and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who finished his collegiate career at Rutgers University after previous stops at Northwest Mississippi Community College, Washington State, and North Texas. A native of Corinth, Mississippi, Sheffield took an unconventional path to Division I football, developing through the junior college ranks before joining Washington State and then transferring to North Texas, where he broke out with 66 receptions for 822 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024, earning first-team All-AAC honors and Honorable Mention All-American recognition. He transferred to Rutgers for his final season in 2025 to compete at the Big Ten level and prove himself against Power Four competition, recording 52 receptions for 762 yards and five touchdowns as one of the Scarlet Knights' primary targets in a resurgent passing offense that ranked among the most efficient in the conference. He was a key contributor alongside fellow receiver Ian Strong in one of the most productive wide receiver tandems in the Big Ten.
Measured at 5-foot-10 and around 175 pounds, Sheffield is an elite straight-line speed threat whose acceleration to top speed translates from the track to the football field in a way that consistently overwhelms defenders at every level of the field. His yards after catch numbers have been exceptional throughout his career, and his ability to outpace defenders in the open field makes him a legitimate home-run threat on any touch. His slim frame and undersized build raise questions about his durability and his ability to withstand physical press coverage in the NFL, and his route tree and overall refinement as a traditional receiver remain areas for development. NFL evaluators project Sheffield as a Day 3 candidate with legitimate upside as a speed weapon and special teams contributor who can develop into a slot receiver or gadget player in the right offensive system.
