Desmond Reid is a running back and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played at Western Carolina and the University of Pittsburgh. A native of Miami Gardens, Florida, Reid entered Western Carolina as a three-star recruit in the 2022 class and quickly emerged as one of the most productive backs in the FCS. He broke out in his sophomore season with 897 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in just eight games before an injury cut the year short, earning second-team AFCA All-American recognition despite limited action. After two seasons with the Catamounts, he followed offensive coordinator Kade Bell to Pittsburgh, where he transitioned seamlessly to the Power Four level. In his first year at Pitt in 2024, Reid totaled 966 rushing yards on 184 carries, 579 receiving yards on 52 receptions, and 10 touchdowns, earning First-Team All-ACC and Second-Team All-American honors as one of the most dynamic all-purpose backs in the country. He was limited by injury in 2025, appearing in seven games and totaling 278 rushing yards and 317 receiving yards, finishing his college career with 2,965 rushing yards, 1,391 receiving yards, and 33 touchdowns.
Standing 5-6 and 175 pounds, Reid is undersized by traditional standards but has repeatedly proven his playmaking ability against quality competition. His calling card is elite short-area explosiveness, body control, and the ability to create missed tackles in space, both as a runner and as a pass catcher out of the backfield. His receiving profile is especially attractive, as he runs routes with the instincts of a wide receiver and has shown the ability to separate from linebackers on wheel routes and underneath concepts. He has also contributed as a punt returner, adding special teams value that could help him stick on an NFL roster. His lack of prototypical size and inconsistency in pass protection will temper draft projections, but his combination of receiving ability, elusiveness, and return skills gives him a legitimate path to a role as a change-of-pace back and core special teams contributor at the next level.
