Dante Dowdell is a running back and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played at three programs during his collegiate career, including stops at Oregon, Nebraska, and the University of Kentucky. A native of Picayune, Mississippi, Dowdell committed to Oregon as a four-star recruit in the 2023 class, but appeared in just six games as a freshman before entering the transfer portal. He moved to Nebraska for the 2024 season, where he became the Cornhuskers' leading rusher with 614 yards and a team-best 12 touchdowns on 143 carries. After another transfer, Dowdell joined Kentucky for the 2025 season, where he rushed for 560 yards and three touchdowns on 112 carries in 12 games, highlighted by a 129-yard debut against Toledo and a 104-yard effort against Florida. Over his three-year college career he totaled 1,264 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 272 carries, adding 14 receptions for 51 yards across 30 games at three programs.
Measured at 6-2 and 227 pounds, Dowdell is one of the bigger backs in the class and brings a physical, north-south running style that NFL teams covet in short-yardage and power situations. He runs behind his pads, generates consistent yards after contact, has strong contact balance and the length to break arm tackles in the second level. His technique as a pass protector has drawn praise, and teammates and coaches alike have noted how difficult he is to bring down despite being a target in the open field. His limitations include inconsistency as a receiver out of the backfield and top-end speed that falls short of the elite tier at the position. Dowdell projects as a late-round pick with the size and toughness to contribute as a depth piece and potential short-yardage specialist in a physical NFL offense.
