Anthony Smith is a wide receiver and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who finished his collegiate career at East Carolina University after beginning it at NC State. A native of Huntingtown, Maryland, Smith joined NC State as a three-star recruit in the 2020 class and spent four seasons in Raleigh, appearing in 34 games and catching 13 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns while developing a reputation as a deep threat and special teams contributor. Seeking more playing time entering the final two years of his eligibility, he transferred to East Carolina in 2024. He immediately emerged as one of the Pirates' top weapons, catching 41 passes for 799 yards and six touchdowns in 2024 and ranking among the top 15 nationally in yards per reception. In 2025, Smith added 43 receptions for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns over 13 games, ranking among the FBS leaders in yards per catch and earning postseason all-star invitations, including the 2026 American Bowl, as he showcased the downfield ability that had been largely untapped during his time in Raleigh.
Standing about 6-foot-1 and around 190 pounds, Smith brings legitimate vertical speed that he used to run a productive career as a track athlete in Maryland, where he set state records in the 55-meter dash and the 300-meter dash. On the football field, that speed translates directly to his ability to threaten defenses downfield, consistently creating separation on deep routes and turning contested opportunities into explosive plays. His route tree and ability to work underneath remain areas for continued development, and he is at his best when given the opportunity to attack coverage vertically with a clean release. NFL evaluators project Smith as a developmental Day 3 prospect or priority undrafted free agent with special teams value and the raw speed to develop into a rotational receiver in an offense that utilizes his downfield ability.
