Analytics Internship (Summer 2021)

So you want to work in fantasy football? Keep reading…

Are there topics that have yet to be researched properly in the industry? Do you have some winning strategies you want to further validate and perform a deep-dive analytical project on? Have you read the same articles about the same type of players over and over again and know you can improve upon them? Then this role is for you.

Our Football Analytics Internship was created for the spreadsheet warriors, coding enthusiasts, and analytics aficionados by spreadsheet warriors, coding enthusiasts, and analytics aficionados. A summer internship where you can meaningfully contribute to analytics projects at PlayerProfiler.com/RotoUnderworld. You will be reporting to and working alongside the Director of Analytics throughout the duration of the internship.

This summer, you’ll combine your fantasy football intuition with Excel, R, Python, and/or similar software to help us continue to deliver groundbreaking new metrics, research, and draft strategies. We will prioritize innovative minds capable of both expanding upon our current research projects, as well as bringing a few ideas of your own to the table.

We’re looking for individuals that are both sharp-minded behind a computer screen, as well as able to convey challenging topics to a less analytically-inclined audience. We want you to be a data story teller, and we will help you become a well-rounded analyst with a strong attention to detail and a voice in this community that’s all your own.

Qualifications:

  • Current college/grad student, or recent graduate
  • Proficiency in R, Python, Excel, or other related software
  • Strong fantasy football background and intuition, along with prior experience in redraft/dynasty leagues
  • Working knowledge of RotoUnderworld products a plus, but not required

Interested applicants should send an email to [email protected] with “Analytics Internship Application” as the subject name. Attach your resume, as well as a short (under 750 words) response to this prompt:

“Both J.K. Dobbins and D’Andre Swift flashed elite potential as rookies in 2020. Who do you currently prefer in dynasty? Which of these players do you view as more volatile heading into the 2021 season? Support your argument with statistics/your own research. Make sure to demonstrate your analytical intuition and ability to ask the right research questions early on.”

The analytics intern(s) will have their research featured on PlayerProfiler, and should expect to make a guest appearance on the Code Breaker podcast (part of the RotoUnderworld Radio Program) toward the conclusion of this internship. Applicants should expect to dedicate roughly 20-25 hours per week to research, writing, and weekly check-ins.

Note: Compensation is provided, and we will work with academic departments to ensure that the opportunity qualifies for experiential learning credits when possible.
