Demond Claiborne is a running back and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who spent all four seasons of his collegiate career with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. A native of Aylett, Virginia, Claiborne committed to Wake Forest as a four-star recruit in the 2022 class after winning a state championship and earning individual track honors in the Virginia Class AA sprints. He appeared in 10 games as a true freshman in 2022 with minimal carries, then broke through as a sophomore in 2023, rushing for 586 yards and five touchdowns on 137 carries while adding a 96-yard kickoff return touchdown against Virginia Tech. He became Wake Forest's featured back in 2024 and delivered the program's first 1,000-yard season since 2018, rushing for 1,049 yards and 11 touchdowns on 228 carries while adding 23 receptions for 254 yards, two receiving touchdowns, and a 100-yard kickoff return score against Miami, earning third-team All-ACC honors. He capped his career in 2025 with 907 yards and 10 touchdowns on 179 carries at 5.1 yards per carry, earning second-team All-ACC recognition. Over four seasons, Claiborne finished as Wake Forest's fourth all-time rusher with 2,599 career rushing yards and 26 touchdowns.
Standing 5-10 and 195 pounds, Claiborne brings elite confirmed track speed to the position, posting a 4.37 40-yard dash at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, where he recorded the fastest speed at the 20-yard mark among running backs in years. That breakaway ability is genuine and shows up on tape, as his speed and agility allow him to turn short gains into explosive plays and defeat defensive angles when he reaches the second level. He runs with solid vision and lateral quickness in zone-blocking concepts, reads blocks with improved patience, and offers receiving and return value that adds to his versatility. The concerns in his evaluation center on ball security, with a history of fumbles in college, his inability to consistently generate yards through contact when defenders square him up cleanly, and modest pass protection reliability given his smaller frame. Claiborne projects as a Day 3 pick with the speed, receiving upside, and kick return ability to carve out a complementary role as a change-of-pace back and core special teams contributor at the professional level.
