John Michael Gyllenborg is a tight end and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who played his entire collegiate career with the Wyoming Cowboys. A native of Leawood, Kansas, Gyllenborg grew up focusing on baseball and basketball, never playing organized tackle football until his senior year at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Missouri, when a new coach persuaded him to join the team for fun. He played only three games before a knee injury and the COVID-19 pandemic ended his 2020 season, yet Wyoming still offered him a scholarship based on the raw physical gifts he flashed. He redshirted in 2021 and contributed only on special teams in 2022 before breaking through in 2023 as one of the conference's most explosive pass-catchers, finishing with 23 receptions for 360 yards and three touchdowns including a game-tying fourth-down score in double overtime against Texas Tech in the season opener. He earned Second Team All-Mountain West recognition in 2024 with 30 receptions for 425 yards and three touchdowns in nine games before a hamstring injury limited him to five games in 2025. He finished his career with 80 receptions for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns and earned an invitation to both the Senior Bowl and the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. He also earned a master's degree in business from Wyoming during his five years in the program.
Standing 6-foot-5 and 249 pounds with a 4.62-second 40-yard dash, a 37-inch vertical, and a 10-foot-8 broad jump at the 2026 Combine that produced one of the most well-rounded on-field workouts of any tight end in the class, Gyllenborg is known for exceptional straight-line speed for his size that allows him to stack linebackers on seam routes and stack defensive backs on vertical routes in a way that creates genuine mismatches from the tight end position, fluid movement skills and loose hip flexibility that allow him to execute smooth route breaks and accelerate out of cuts with uncommon athleticism, and natural hands as a catcher who finishes through contact at the catch point. NFL evaluators project him as a developmental receiving tight end and big-play threat whose physical upside, combine performance, and extraordinary athleticism-per-experience ratio position him as a Day 3 selection with legitimate starting potential if he continues developing the blocking technique and route tree refinement he has not yet had the time to master given his unconventional introduction to the sport.
