Kayden McDonald Bio

Kayden McDonald is a defensive tackle and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who spent three seasons at Ohio State. Born in Texarkana, Texas and raised in the Atlanta area, McDonald was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class out of North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia, choosing the Buckeyes over Clemson, Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, and other major programs. He saw limited action in his first two seasons while learning behind Tyleik Williams, appearing in 16 games on the national championship team in 2024 and contributing 19 tackles. His 2025 breakout season was one of the most dominant performances by an interior defender in the country, as he took over the starting nose tackle job and recorded 65 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery while leading all defensive tackles in run stops. He was named the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year, a unanimous first-team All-American, and an Outland Trophy finalist before declaring for the draft.

Measuring 6 feet 2 inches and approximately 326 pounds, McDonald is one of the most effective two-gapping interior defenders in the class, with the ability to eat blocks, anchor against double teams, and wash out rushing lanes while generating real interior penetration when his gap assignments allow upfield pursuit. His first-step quickness and functional strength combine to make him nearly impossible to move on early downs, and his recovery skills allow him to make tackles even when initially displaced, a trait that scouts find valuable at every level. The consistent limitation in his evaluation is pass-rush production beyond raw pressure numbers, as his sack total was modest given his draft-day profile, and his arm length below the preferred threshold has raised concerns about his ability to disengage from longer blockers consistently in the NFL. He projects as a late first or early second-round selection with immediate starter potential as a run-stuffing nose tackle who can develop into a disruptive interior force with added technique.
