Malachi Thomas Bio

Malachi Thomas is a running back and 2026 NFL Draft prospect who finished his collegiate career at Purdue University after spending four seasons at Virginia Tech. A native of Hartwell, Georgia, Thomas was a three-star recruit out of Hart County High School who joined the Hokies in 2021 and made an immediate impact as a true freshman, including a 151-yard, three-touchdown performance against Syracuse. Injuries limited his availability in subsequent seasons, holding him to 37 carries in 2022, 81 carries for 381 yards in 2023, and 43 carries for 165 yards in an injury-shortened 2024 before he entered the transfer portal. He transferred to Purdue for his final season but played in just four games due to injury, adding little to his statistical profile in his lone year as a Boilermaker.

Listed at 6-foot and approximately 197 to 220 pounds depending on the report, Thomas is a rangy back with decent speed, good size for the position, and the passing-game tools that drew Power Five interest throughout his career. His best football remains the flashes of dynamism he showed as a true freshman at Virginia Tech, where he demonstrated tackle-breaking ability and impressive burst in short spaces. Durability has been the defining challenge of his career, limiting him to just 254 total carries across five college seasons. Thomas projects as a developmental free agent candidate or late-round flier whose physical traits and receiving ability could attract interest from NFL camps, though the lack of recent production and injury history will temper his draft stock.
