The Steelers are keeping 42.6 year old Aaron Rodgers, 31 year old Mason Rudolph, 2025 6th round pick Will Howard, and their 2026 3rd round pick, Drew Allar, all on the active roster. NBC’s Mike Florio speculates that one of these QBs could be put on the short-term IR, or soon be traded or cut.
For the impact on fantasy gamers, well, it’s probably best to keep a safe distance from this situation. Aaron Rodgers can be added for those who are desperate in superflex leagues, but can be avoided unless desperately seeking streaming in non-superflex leagues. As for their other QBs, it may be worth a taxi-squad stash dart-throw on the youth, Drew Allar, in Dynasty formats. But unfortunately, the situation is an uninspiring stayaway for fantasy football.

Drew Allar is currently locked in a preseason competition with Mason Rudolph and Will Howard to secure the direct backup role behind Aaron Rodgers. While his profile features prototype size and a 19.5 Breakout Age (91st percentile), his middling 7.7 College Yards Per Attempt (26th percentile) and 69.8 College QBR (26th percentile) reflect genuine developmental hurdles.
Under Mike McCarthy, the rookie remains a long-term developmental project who is not ready for meaningful 2026 snaps. Allar has a clear path to winning the starting job in 2027, and he is a clever selection in the middle rounds of superflex dynasty rookie drafts.
Aaron Rodgers is the center of attention once again this offseason as fans eagerly await the decision of where the 41-year-old will sign. Multiple rumors throughout the offseason have hinted at Rodgers landing in Pittsburgh even before his official visit, and there seems to be some truth behind it. Other quarterback-needy teams, such as the Raiders, Giants, and Seahawks, have already addressed this position. Rodgers’s options have seemingly thinned out to the point where the Steelers are the only reasonable landing spot left.
The only quarterbacks currently on the Steelers roster are Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph, who is returning to the Steel City after spending a season with the Tennessee Titans. General Manager Omar Khan told reporters at the NFL’s 2025 league meeting that the Steelers will go into training camp with four quarterbacks on their roster, as they usually do. This implies that Rodgers might not be the only quarterback the Steelers look to add in April. The team has reportedly expressed interest in multiple quarterback prospects, including Jaxson Dart and Jalen Milroe.
While Coach Tomlin added that there isn’t a deadline for Rodgers’s decision, he reportedly had a throwing session with Steelers newly acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf over the weekend. All eyes and ears remain tuned to where the future Hall of Fame quarterback will decide to spend the final years of his career, with all signs currently pointing to Southwest Pennsylvania. Rodgers came back from a ruptured Achilles and totaled over 4,000 total yards and 28 passing touchdowns last season.

Former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 3rd round of the 2018 Draft. Initially, Rudolph was seen as the heir apparent to Ben Roethlisberger. Rudolph started 8 games his rookie year due to an injury to Roethlisberger and went 5-3. Since then Rudolph has only started 5 games the next 3 years, including 3 last season. In those 3 starts Rudolph threw for 719 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions, winning all 3 games. Those 3 games were the most competent the Steelers offense looked all season. Rudolph may be most remembered from getting hit on the head with his own helmet by Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.
Rudolph is getting a change of scenery by signing with the Tennessee Titans on a 1-year deal worth up to $3.62 million. This is very cheap signing as Rudolph has been decent as a spot starter. The contract likely includes incentives, as such number of games started, to reach the maximum value. There may be good chance Rudolph starts if 2-year quarterback Will Levis struggles or gets injured. The offense is quickly shifting with running back Derrick (King) Henry leaving for Baltimore, along with signing running back Tony Pollard and wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Look for Rudolph to try to cement himself a long career in the NFL.
Mason Rudolph should be a quick find on your waiver wires in your fantasy leagues should anything happen to Will Levis. Rudolph should only be rostered in the deepest of rosters in dynasty leagues.
