Shervon Fakhimi

Fantasy Football Analyst

My name is Shervon Fakhimi and I am somehow a fantasy football analyst, writer, and podcaster for PlayerProfiler.com. I was born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and fell in love with sports through the Los Angeles Lakers, Green Bay Packers, and the local University of Arkansas Razorbacks, where I graduated from in 2019 with a degree in Business Administration and minor in Marketing. I also picked up fantasy football around 2007 and haven’t looked back since, (for better or worse). Somehow, I have turned this blessing and curse of an obsession into a job talking and writing about the NFL and fantasy football.

I co-host ‘The Juice’ podcast along with The Podfather Matt Kelley and Ahaan Rungta. I also write an article every week during the NFL season called ‘Betting the Spread’ where I pick every NFL game against the spread and give fantasy notes for each matchup. This is in addition to offseason articles about dynasty, free agency, draft prospects, you name it. I’m pretty lucky. Anyway, follow me on Twitter @ShervonFakhimi if you want to interact with me about any and all things fantasy football, NBA, soccer, Hip Hop, Star Wars, Marvel, or anything created by the almighty and all-knowing Larry David.

Betting the Spread: Week 14 - It's Knight Time

Osborn himself has had a great fantasy day against the Lions. He has played at least 60-percent of the Vikings snaps in all but one game this season. Osborn should be on the field often in one of the highest-scoring games of the week. I love him as a DFS shot and think he's a solid flex play in season-long leagues if you need to play him.

Betting the Spread Week 13 | Fields Returns

by Shervon Fakhimi
Justin Fields practiced in full on Thursday and is averaging 6.84 yards per carry this season. He has at least 47 rushing yards in every game since Week 3, at least 60 yards in every game since Week 6, and at least one rushing touchdown in every game since Week 7. David Montgomery ran for 122 yards at an 8.13 yards per carry clip against Green Bay in Week 2. Fields and Montgomery, heck even Darrynton Evans if he gets 10 touches again like he did last week, is set to smash against this Packers' defense.

Rachaad White's 3.6 true yards per carry is nothing to write home about, and that number is so low in part to how beat up the Bucs' offensive line has been. But luckily, they get the Browns and the league's worst run defense according to Football Outsiders' run defense DVOA metric. White looks like an RB1 option this week if Fournette can't go. Both would be RB2s in the event Fournette can go.

Here are his numbers in the last three games Matt Ryan has been under center for the Colts: 32 targets, 24 receptions, 203 yards, and three touchdowns. Campbell now leads wide receivers in slot snaps with 385 and is No. 4 in routes run with 347.

Sure enough, Mike Gesicki found the end zone last week. Enter Robert Tonyan. Tonyan's usage has been spotty this season, but it also has been ramping up lately.

Betting the Spread: NFL Week 8 - We're Back Again

Here's the good news: we had another winning week! That makes three of the last four weeks victorious against Las Vegas. That's awesome! The bad news is, we only went 7-6 again. We're still below .500 for the season at 44-55-2. But we're making progress, and that's all that matters here. All we're trying to do here is win bets and fantasy matchups. We're in the thick of the NFL season now. We should know by now which teams are good, which ones aren't, and what these teams' tendencies are. This should help us not only hit more bets but also find out who is poised for big fantasy performances. I feel like we're about to make a big push here. Let's get Week 8 rolling!

When you thought things couldn't get worse for Terry McLaurin at the QB position, it did. Carson Wentz isn't giving McLaurin the love his previous QBs were. McLaurin's 16.4-percent target share ranks No. 57 among wide receivers. His 15.5-percent target rate ranks No. 83. Even the targets he is getting aren't moving the needle. McLaurin's target quality rating ranks No. 27 at receiver, and his 7.4 target accuracy is No. 50. But Carson Wentz injured a finger on his throwing hand and will miss 4-6 weeks. Well, for a brief summary: rookie second-round running backs since 2012 leading up to the 2022 season that registered at least 150 touches averaged 9.8 PPR points per game in their first career NFL games. In the last five games of their rookie season? 15.62.

Kenny Golladay's dust sprained his MCL and is out for a few weeks. Now, Richie James is nursing a sprained ankle. Even Daniel Jones AND Tyrod Taylor sustained injuries last week. Saquon Barkley ran for 146 yards on 31 carries last week. Green Bay possesses the No. 5-worst run defense according to Football Outsiders' rush DVOA metric. Betting the Spread: NFL Week 4 - Turning the Corner

Dalvin Cook sustained yet another injury to his shoulder that has bothered him for years. Backup Alexander Mattison has risen to the occasion in Cook's absence in the last three seasons. In the five full games Cook has missed since 2020, Mattison has averaged 21.4 carries, 90.2 yards, and 0.6 touchdowns per game while adding five targets per game and 0.4 touchdowns through the air. The Saints' run defense has not been as stout this season as we've been accustomed to them being. They stifled Leonard Fournette (24 carries-65 yards), but Cordarrelle Patterson (22 carries-120 yards-1 touchdown) and Christian McCaffrey (25 carries-108 yards) had their share of success. The Saints' defense skews closer to the Tampa matchup than the other two, but we'll see. Mattison is a fine RB2 this week if Dalvin misses.

2022 NFC UDFAs

Seattle's quarterback room consists of Drew Lock, Geno Smith, and Jacob Eason. Neither Levi Lewis nor Kaleb Eleby will emerge out of training camp as the successor to Russell Wilson, but why couldn't they make the 53? Levi Lewis has mobility (1,088 career rushing yards and 14 career rushing touchdowns) and experience operating a run-first offense. Lewis fits how Seattle wants to run (key word: run) their offense and likely has the edge between him and Eleby of making the 53. It will be an uphill climb for either of them.

2022 AFC UDFAs

by Shervon Fakhimi
There were 262 names called during the weekend of the 2022 NFL Draft, but those aren't the only players who make the transition to the pros. Every year there are undrafted players who make an impact and become marquee names after the NFL overlooked them. 2022 surely won't be an exception, so it's worth tracking where these guys land. Every AFC undrafted free agent among fantasy football-relevant positions is listed below. Justyn Ross led a national-champion team that also boasted Tee Higgins, Hunter Renfrow, Amari Rodgers, and Travis Etienne in receiving yards as a true freshman with 1,000. Per Dwain McFarland of PFF, Ross' career 2.99 yards per route run was the best in the 2022 wide receiver class. He only went undrafted because of a spinal fusion surgery before his junior season. Ross is a great wide receiver project. If he makes the team, he has the chance to work his way onto the same field with Patrick Mahomes. If that happens, he will be very fantasy relevant.

2022 NFL Draft Losers

by Shervon Fakhimi
Are the Chicago Bears trying to get Justin Fields killed? Chicago's 74.5-percent Protection Rate with Fields under center ranked No. 33 among qualified quarterbacks. The Bears are bad and will likely have plenty of garbage time for Fields to exploit, but it’s hard to get excited about him for fantasy this season with how pedestrian his supporting cast is. At least Darnell Mooney, Cole Kmet, and David Montgomery will be fed extensively. Perhaps A.J. Brown's arrival convinces Jalen Hurts and the Eagles coaching staff to let it fly all over the field and more often. But in a low-volume passing offense with a quarterback who is still improving as a passer, loves to run, and has other very capable pass-catchers to feed as well, it's fair to wonder. Brown still has WR1 upside. But it is going to be harder to tap into that upside as currently constituted in Philadelphia than it was when he was in Tennessee.

2022 NFL Draft Winners

by Shervon Fakhimi
Kenny Pickett ultimately got the draft capital and landing spot anybody would’ve wanted from this pedestrian quarterback class. He may not be a fantasy superstar. But he’s going to be the Steelers quarterback of the future, will start games sooner than later, and has a superb cast of weapons. He’s going to be fantasy relevant soon. Even if it’s without as juicy a ceiling as most other first-round quarterback prospects. Rashod Bateman gave a glimpse of his brilliance during his rookie season, and it was enough for the Ravens to not only trade Hollywood Brown, but NOT bring in another receiver during the draft. Bateman was as stellar a draft prospect as anybody in last year’s stacked class and now has the chance to show it. There might not have been a bigger winner from the draft weekend.

2022 NFL Free Agency Winners

Derek Carr was great last season and now gets Davante Adams to throw the ball to. He finished as the QB14 in fantasy last season but should improve upon it with the best receiver in the NFL at his disposal and a loaded division with shootout potential. There will be many startable quarterback options this season. Carr is firmly entrenched as one. Chase Edmonds is already one of the best receivers out of the backfield and will get the opportunity to showcase more of that skillset this season in a revamped Miami offense that saw them acquire Terron Armstead and Tyreek Hill. Miami's offensive line should hold up better than the last two seasons while plenty of space should be created underneath as defenses have to deal with both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The Dolphins offense will improve as a whole, and Edmonds looks like a big beneficiary.

2022 NFL Second Draft Part 4: David Njoku

by Shervon Fakhimi
David Njoku is a big-time athlete at the tight end position. So much so that the Cleveland Browns took him in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. They used a first-round pick on him for good reason, but he hasn't lived up to that draft capital. Much of it can be excused to a very poor situation. David Njoku is a talented NFL tight end. That has never been in dispute. But circumstances have not fully allowed for those talents to flourish in the NFL. A right situation after free agency could finally free him up to do so. We’ll see what ultimately will happen in free agency that begins on March 15th, but he is worth buying now before his value potentially explodes in a couple of weeks.

2022 NFL Second Draft Candidate Part 3: D.J. Chark

by Shervon Fakhimi
D.J. Chark didn’t play much in his rookie season. But, he broke out in 2019 to the tune of 73 receptions on 118 targets for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games. After finishing 2019 as the WR16 in fantasy football, he tumbled to a WR50 finish and was the WR42 on a per-game basis. That is not going to get the job done at all. I personally believe that the 2019 D.J. Chark is closer to the real thing. Though his 2020 season was concerning, the 2019 season is the one we’ve seen him start and finish without a myriad of injuries. If he really is a receiver of the caliber he showed that year, and lands in a situation conducive to fantasy success, he will get back to putting big-time numbers. That scenario is very much in his range of outcomes, making him a buy in dynasty and best-ball leagues before free agency kicks off.

2022 NFL Second Draft Candidate Part 2: Rashaad Penny

by Shervon Fakhimi
Using a first-round pick on a running back is not smart business in today’s NFL. But Rashaad Penny's prospect profile warranted an early selection when he declared for the 2018 NFL Draft. The problem for Penny was that he could not beat out the incumbent Chris Carson. Though he did flash as a rookie with a couple of touchdowns and a 108-yard outing on 12 carries against the Los Angeles Rams, he registered 85 carries to 247 for Carson. The 2019 season was the year Penny showed his worth. Rashaad Penny was a gifted running back when he entered the NFL, and still is. Injuries have gotten in the way of him shining the way he was supposed to like he did to close the 2021 season. With plenty of teams needing a running back in free agency, he will be a hot commodity. If he stays healthy, he will reward not only any NFL team who signs him but any fantasy gamer who acquires him. He is a buy in dynasty leagues as someone who will not cost a premium but has league-winning RB1 upside.

2022 NFL Combine Winners: Breece Hall, Christian Watson, Skyy Moore

by Shervon Fakhimi
Breece Hall's resume is as sparkling as one a college running back could create. His tape and production already made him a nearly indestructible running back. But him blowing up the Combine was the last piece to make him a bulletproof prospect. To make matters even better, won’t turn 21 until May 31st, more than a month after he hears his name called. He should be the first running back to hear his name called among his class both in the NFL Draft and in upcoming fantasy drafts. Whoa! Well, hello there Christian Watson! He may not have lit the college football landscape on fire the way Breece Hall did. But, he did manage to accumulate a robust College Dominator Rating/College YPR combo. Watson blew up the Senior Bowl with his dynamic skillset and then did the same at the Combine with his otherworldly athleticism. Doing so solidified him as a likely Day 2 draft pick at the minimum and possibly a first-round pick in late April. When it comes to winners of the Combine and the draft season, perhaps no player did so as emphatically.

2022 Second Draft QB Candidate: Mitchell Trubisky

by Shervon Fakhimi
It's not uncommon for a high draft pick, especially a first-rounder, to get a second chance despite early career struggles. For many, especially quarterbacks, all they need is that change of scenery to get their career back on track. If there's a guy that's going to follow in the footsteps of Ryan Tannehill and Jameis Winston and thrive in new digs, the best candidate to do so among 2022's crop of free agents is Mitchell Trubisky. Mitchell Trubisky has a top-12 points per game finish to his name. However, his three other seasons were all outside the top 25. Yes, it is more than fair to be skeptical. But that brings us back to the entire purpose of this article: finding treasure out of someone else’s trash. We’ve seen his ceiling as a top-12 option, it costs almost nothing to see if he can get there again. Which, he could in the right situation.

Week 18 Preview: Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions

by Shervon Fakhimi
The Packers have not only clinched the NFC North divisional title, but also the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams have campaigned to play in this meaningless game for the Packers, but odds are they will sit out a significant portion of the game, if not all of it. For gamers playing in Week 18, or those eager to make DFS lineups, wait for confirmation as to whether or not key veteran skill players will play. The only fantasy option from this Lions passing attack is Amon-Ra St. Brown, who was a league winner for many. His Target Share over the last five weeks? 32.2-percent. To put that in context, Cooper Kupp's 32.3-percent Target Share ranks No. 2 in the league. For Week 18 and DFS purposes, there's no reason to think St. Brown will stop now. He's a strong WR2 play.

He has an 80.9-percent (No. 3 among qualified running backs) Opportunity Share and averages 5.0 (No. 25) Yards Per Touch. He was activated from the COVID-19 list on Wednesday, meaning he now has the golden ticket to swinging fantasy title games this week against Green Bay's second-worst run defense per Football Outsiders' run defense DVOA metric. Since Week 15, Aaron Jones has 25 carries and eight targets compared to Dillon's 16 carries and four targets. Jones is almost doubling Dillon in routes run in that span too, with a 29-16 advantage. Dillon still saw 12 touches last week to Jones' 17, and is as good a candidate as there is to punch in a touchdown at the goal line, but he is not a player that must be inserted into lineups anymore.

Week 16 Matchup Preview: Cleveland Browns vs Green Bay Packers

by Shervon Fakhimi
Cleveland has no choice but to ride Nick Chubb down the stretch if they want to save their season. With all that ails their passing attack, Chubb is who the offense is built around and needs to be emphasized during the next three weeks. Even though his receiving work lags behind, he's a lock for a heavy workload and gets the No. 25-ranked run defense according to Football Outsiders' run defense DVOA metric. He is a locked and loaded RB1 this week. What more is there to say about Davante Adams? His dominance is so overwhelming that the Baltimore Ravens and their depleted secondary resorted to having *two* defensive backs line up against him before the snap. He will likely see plenty of action against Cleveland's Denzel Ward, who is PlayerProfiler's No. 3-ranked cornerback. But as he's proven time and time again, he is matchup-proof and will produce for fantasy gamers no matter the circumstance. Like Thanos, Adams is inevitable.

Week 14 Matchup Preview: New York Giants vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Austin Ekeler did not play his best game last week, coughing the rock twice in what could have cost the Chargers the game. He's already up to 15 (!!!) on the season. He has 45 red zone touches, which is No. 3 among running backs. This drastic change in usage around the goal line has transformed him into a league winner. After registering three targets in his first two games of the season, Saquon Barkley has seen at least five in every other game. He just hauled in nine targets this last week after running 30 routes. The nine targets were the most he's seen all season, and the 30 routes were tied for second on the team. His usage is elite, and he is set up to smash this week. Week 12 Matchup Preview: Los Angeles Rams vs Green Bay Packers

One point separates these two in the eyes of Vegas, who view the Rams as the favorite. This matchup intrigues from all angles, so analyzing it is a must. The Packers are an hour away from punching the clock on their night shift, while the Rams woke up from a good night's sleep. The states of these two teams are polar opposites after the Rams came off a bye last week, while the Packers are battered and bruised with their bye next week. Vegas likes the Rams as one-point favorites, and it's hard to find fault in their process.

Back to Basics: Why Bryan Edwards RULES!

It also is a benefit having Derek Carr throwing him passes at quarterback.  Bryan Edwards is a monster talent at the wide receiver position. He is already producing at great efficiency and has room for more. However, he's unproven at the NFL level. But he has never had the opportunity that stands in front of him now.
